2Decide for yourself - but these DO contain BPA  Oct 19, 2010 By Q
These straws are ALMOST perfect. I loved them from a functional standpoint - they held up well, washed up beautifully (w/o falling through the holes in my dishwasher's utensil basket), and ended the money (and trash) out with disposable straws.

However . . . they DO contain BPA. I contacted Zak, the manufacturer, and they confirmed it.

Yes, we used them with cold drinks, but we washed them in a very hot dishwasher. It's just not worth any potential for risk with my children's health (for me). I'll consider stainless steel, but I'm not sure they'll like the feel/cold of those.

5sturdy reusable straws  Nov 04, 2010 By Chel Micheline "Chel Micheline"
My family uses straws for anything and everything we put in a glass, so we were going through disposable straws in a disconcerting fashion. In an effort be a tiny bit more "green", we purchased these straws. They are thick, wide, super-sturdy and have held up to both ultra-hot dishwashing and my daughters' habit of "teething" her straws for over a year now.The designs have not worn off at all and there are no cracks in the plastic, as often happens when plastic things are constantly dishwashed.

If you are going to order these straws, I recommend buying Dr. Brown's Natural Flow Cleaning Brush, 4 Pack - the straws do fine in the dishwasher, but over time some residue builds up inside and they need a good washing by hand. I think a pipe cleaner might work, as well, but the Dr. Brown's cleaners do a nice job.

5Colorful and functional  May 27, 2011 By Caroline "The Mighty"
I drink a lot of acidic drinks like soda, fruit juice, lemonade, and the like. So, as a favor to my teeth, I decided that regularly using straws would be a good idea. I didn't want to buy disposable straws because it feels incredibly wasteful and potentially expensive. When I saw these, I was immediately taken. The stainless steel ones look fine, but these are cheaper and more colorful.

One comment I feel I should make is that these straws are a little wider than I expected. I don't see it as a problem- in fact, it makes them really great for smoothies or milkshakes. But I felt I should mention it. They're pretty wide.

The straws wash up nicely, but do accumulate residue over time. Also, a few of them seem to have discolored slightly. I don't have a dishwasher, so I usually let them soak in hot water and detergent for a long time, then rinse them. Occasionally, I use pipe cleaners on them, but something stiffer would be better. I'm planning on getting a cleaning brush to clean out the buildup. I think I even treated them once in water with a little bit of bleach to make sure the buildup wouldn't hurt anything. I was probably being overly cautious, though. The fact that these straws are clear means that you can actually see if the straw is still dirty, which is better than the stainless steel.

These really are great straws for regular use. They're nice and colorful and protect your teeth from cold and acid. They clean up as well as any straws of their type and work well in all sorts of drinks. I'm not bothered by the presence of BPA. These are fun straws.

4Great straws - simple  Dec 13, 2010 By vk
So far after two packs and over 2 months I think these are a great item. They have held up well to being in the dash washer multiple times and the only reason I'd give them a point off (Really Amazon, time for half stars) is because some have started to bend.

Can't say anything about the BPA issue as they are used by adults and really... something in almost every product is going to kill you eventually, but at least these keep hundreds of plastic straws out of the trashcan.

5Better than expected!  Jan 09, 2011 By gilliesperez53z
These hard straws were hard to find, so I was really happy to find them on Amazon. They are fun and easy to clean. I just pop them into the dishwasher. I'm one of those people with cold-sensitive teeth. These straws eliminate that problem. PLUS, they help the environment!
