2Decide for yourself - but these DO contain BPA  Oct 19, 2010 By Q
These straws are ALMOST perfect. I loved them from a functional standpoint - they held up well, washed up beautifully (w/o falling through the holes in my dishwasher's utensil basket), and ended the money (and trash) out with disposable straws.

However . . . they DO contain BPA. I contacted Zak, the manufacturer, and they confirmed it.

Yes, we used them with cold drinks, but we washed them in a very hot dishwasher. It's just not worth any potential for risk with my children's health (for me). I'll consider stainless steel, but I'm not sure they'll like the feel/cold of those.

5Fabulous, sturdy straws  Nov 04, 2010 By Chel Micheline "Chel Micheline"
My family uses straws for anything and everything we put in a glass, so we were going through disposable straws in a disconcerting fashion. In an effort be a tiny bit more "green", we purchased these straws. They are thick, wide, super-sturdy and have held up to both ultra-hot dishwashing and my daughters' habit of "teething" her straws for over a year now.The designs have not worn off at all and there are no cracks in the plastic, as often happens when plastic things are constantly dishwashed.

If you are going to order these straws, I recommend buying Dr. Brown's Natural Flow Cleaning Brush, 4 Pack - the straws do fine in the dishwasher, but over time some residue builds up inside and they need a good washing by hand. I think a pipe cleaner might work, as well, but the Dr. Brown's cleaners do a nice job.

2Not Going To Get What The Picture Shows  Mar 31, 2011 By K. Kasten
I wanted all 4 colors, but we only got a box that had 2 colors in them. Be aware.

5Wonderful and pretty!  Oct 02, 2010 By S. Cash
I got these straws for summer shakes and smoothies - couldn't be happier! I was concerned before I ordered them because I was really looking for a larger diameter, and some other reviewers mentioned that these fall through the dishwasher basket, but mine stay in just fine.

5Best reusable straws I have found  Aug 28, 2010 By Vanessa Tanner
About the worries about BPA in the other review, you need to consider the amount if any in these straws, and the time the liquid would be in contact with the straw, and the rate at which any contaminants transfer into the liquid. I think even if the straws contained BPA the amount transferred into the beverage over the 10 minutes you are drinking something would be so small as to be negligible.

If you are concerned about BPA, make sure you study the doses that cause harm to humans, and estimate how much you would really be getting from a certain object. If it is thousands of times less than the dangerous amount, it will not cause harm. It is just like with mercury, there is mercury in tuna, but we can still eat it often and not be affected by mercury poison.

Back to the straws, they are the cheapest reusable plastic straws I was able to find. They can go in the dishwasher, and they seem to hold up very well to repeated use. They are a good size, not to different from regular disposable straws, and they are wide enough for milkshakes and smoothies. I would recommend them, I am buying a second pack. I used to buy a bag of plastic straws once a month, this way I will save money in the long run.
