Not so perfect oil and vinegar bottle *updated* Aug 13, 2010
By Dawn I am disappointed in this bottle. It pours plenty of basalmic vinegar, but I can hardly get it to pour the olive oil. On top of that, I cannot get it to JUST pour the olive oil. The Basalmic still dribbles out while I'm holding the just oil button...I am so sad about it! It is such a beautiful bottle...and has the potential to be so useful! I tried it several times. The oil is hardly coming out, and the basalmic just pours out. Mine is still full of olive oil, and almost out of basalmic vinegar.
The small reservoir for the vinegar is made of plastic, and comes out easily for cleaning. The bottle it's self feels sturdy, and it is a pleasing design...I just wish it worked.
*update*
I e-mailed the company to see if there is anything I can do to fix it, or get it replaced. They took a while to respond, but they were helpful in telling me how to get a better seal on the top. Apparently, if you screw the top on too fast, the silicone cannot get a good seal on the bottle (I had taken the top off and replaced it many times trying to get it to work). So, taking their advice, I took the top off and very slowly screwed it back on. Now, when I press the oil only button, it works pretty well. If I let both pour, there is still far more basalmic than there should be for a six to one ratio, but maybe I need to try to get a better seal again.
**update**
I emailed the company again, and informed them that this bottle is still not working properly. They sent me a shipment label, had me send back the defective bottle, and shipped me a new one very quickly. The new bottle works beautifully, and I am happy to say, I am now pleased with this product.

By Crisafad Got this unit because I wanted something nicer looking than an olive oil bottle sitting out and so I could avoid needing both hands to open the bottle. While I like the look of the unit, be aware that the metallic-looking top portion is plastic. Looks decent enough and reasonable sturdy, but won't pass for brushed nickel or stainless steel under close inspection.
I did initially have the issues that other reviews have noted with oil and/or vinegar leaking during a pour, but fiddling with the silicone gasket that is nested in the upper part seems to have fixed most of my issues. While testing the seals, I noticed that a small amount of oil still leaked through the cap (not through either spout) if it is held upside down for more than 20-30 seconds. Since it is pretty unlikely for the issue to come up during normal use, it doesn't bother me.
One thing that takes some time to get used to is that pushing the "Oil" button does not open a valve to let the oil pour, but simply pinches off the vinegar. Pushing the vinegar button works in the opposite fashion. I would have preferred a closed system that prevents any air circulation into the bottle, but if you are that much of a stickler about your olive oil, then you have probably already looked elsewhere.
Altogether it is a decent unit that looks and functions adequately for a good price, but don't expect to see it on the table at a fancy restaurant anytime soon.
**Update** The unit acquired a crack in the plastic but metallic-looking cap such that it no longer tightens adequately and will fall off during use. Will not buy again.

By Charles H. Comfort Jr. Don't be misled by the item description - and read it very carefully. When the unit is advertised with a "glass and stainless steel finish" it means glass on the bottom and "stainless steel" painted plastic up top. I don't understand why the company would have selected a plastic "stainless steel" finish instead of using the real thing - perhaps to keep the cost down? Once the stainless steel paint finish is marred, what might have been a beautifully functional design then looks cheap.
Works well initially but with the finished plastic top now showing its true (white plastic) colors through the stainless steel paint that was applied, it begins to look like the cheap plastic top it is.
If re-designed with a true stainless steel top I might consider purchasing it again, but not in its presently misleading form.

By disappointed again This item does NOT pour the advertised amounts of oil and vinegar. TOO much oil comes out and it ruins the salads. This is quite disappointing b/c we didn't realize the problem until we filled it and would have returned it if we knew it was going to be faulty. Very disappointing.
