5Bwah Ha Ha! Your Food Can't Escape Now!  Mar 01, 2008 By Dave
Hey... this is a GREAT idea, to put the cooking twine on a spindle with a cutter. There is plenty of good quality twine, and the spindle with a handy cutter is indispensible if you are trying to tie up that bird, or tenderloin, or whatnot. Who wants to have more items out on the table, and more trips to get those items, and more effort to try and find shears to cut the twine that don't already need washing to prevent cross contamination? This spindle allows you to pull twine and cut it beforehand, and all with one grab from the pantry. A little less headache is always appreciated. Good job guys with this product. I really like it.

5Perfect Cotton Twine  Jun 10, 2011 By civilizationinruins
I used to find twine like this at the old independent hardware stores that seem to have disappeared. Recently, I have not been able to find cotton butcher's twine at any bricks-and-mortar shops (except ridiculously small amounts at ridiculously high prices at "specialty gourmet" shops), so I had to turn to the Internet. This twine is perfect for tying roasts, bundling bouquets garnis, or securing chicken Kiev or braciole. Also useful around the house outside of the kitchen.

While the stand with cutter is made in China, the twine is made in the USA--good to know when you're going to be using it on food. My stand did not have a protruding bolt on the bottom as others have mentioned. Perhaps they have fixed that problem--the bolt on mine is recessed (I bought this on May 9, 2011).

Also good to know: this is a half cone of twine, not a full cone (500 ft vs. 1200 ft). If you buy a full cone later to replace the one it came with, you will not be able to use the cutter, as it will be hidden inside the cone. Be aware that you must replace this with a half cone.

1Good twine with Bad Holder  Mar 13, 2010 By SWH Buyer
Spool holder has a metal bolt extending out of the bottom. Result is that holder does not sit solid and it scratches the kitchen counter top. I emailed Regency about the problem two weeks ago and they did not reply. I will update my review if Regency should decide to provide customer service on their defective product.

3Good twine but the holder is really cheap  Apr 16, 2009 By R. Johnston
THe twine cutter is fine, however the spool has a metal bolt sticking out of the botten and really cheaply produced. I have written the company to see if the design is flawed or if I just got a bad product.

4Does the job with ease  Feb 25, 2010 By C. G. King
There are precious few holders for kitchen string that have cutters and this will do the job just fine. I do wish it was a little prettier and that the string was covered to keep it clean, but at least the holder has the cutter and there is plenty of string. The cutter is sharp so I don't need a lot of force to cut the string which is a good thing, because I use it mainly for a rather unconventional purpose.

Each day when I've finished reading the WSJ, I roll each section folded in half into a narrow cylinder and tie it with string so it stays rolled up. These paper 'sticks' go in the fireplace to help light the wood fire to begin with or get the flame going again if it dies down too much. They burn really well--longer than you'd expect.

The string I was using was in a clear plastic container with a cutter. The container had melted a bit from having gotten too close to the heat at some point so was sort of misshapen, plus the cutter wasn't sharp and I had to really jerk on the string to cut it. As the string got to running out, I started my search for a replacement and was surprised to discover most kitchen string holders, not only don't have cutters, they are metal so you can't see how much string is left and could run out unexpectedly. There was one cute rooster holder with a cutter but it was huge--almost a foot high, which is way too big for my counter, more like the sort of thing you'd have in a store to tie up parcels, although I don't guess they do that anymore.

I may paint this holder since it's just bare wood (although has a nice smooth finish) to give it a bit of flair. Even without flair, it's very functional and that is my top priority. I can get refills when needed and it suits the purpose. If you want a string holder with a cutter, this is about the best you'll find.
