Garlic, Yah baby. Rub it in. Jun 17, 2011

For years I've been just slamming garlic with a fist or handy object to remove the husk then chop with a knife. For years I may just slice em up and dump in whatever.
Recently I was on a quest to find a garlic press. Can't say why, just decided I wanted something more better than my tried and true manual method, which was great cause I love the smell of garlic on my fingers. Wanna sniff em?
Anyway, I looked all over Amazon. Read zillions of reviews of trials and tribulations of various garlic press's. I balked at the price of many and how many had issues with falling apart or having plating chip and fail. I balked at many due to the fact MADE IN CHINA seems to be the mantra. I wont' mention names.
Well, I finally decided I'd give this on a try. The 'press' arrived today. I've had a chance to use it on 4 cloves. Bottom line this thing worked great. A few twists and I had nicely ground garlic, better and finer grind then I get by my manual methods (cause I'm always in a rush) The unit was easy to clean with a simple rinse in the sink. I had no issues twisting this model, the new one with the handy knobs grips built in. Course I'm a 54 year old male so maybe it might be a different story if your wrist strength isn't there. The cloves I used for this test were of the 'medium' size and not the giant size. I used two at a time for my test. With the ease it handled those I doubt it would be a issue with 4 medium size cloves at a time.
Unless you had some serious arthritis I don't' think anyone would have a problem with this. If someone did, it would be easy enough to chop a giant clove in half before placing it in the unit.
Of course you smash the clove first and remove the husk then place it in the unit. The unit makes a handy smasher no separate smashing device required.
No plating to fall out and get in your food with this. It looks like high quality acrylic of some sort to me. Far as I know not made in China. That is a major plus on top of it all.

Best garlic mincer May 10, 2011
By z_bookworm This thing'll do up to 3 large cloves of garlic, or 4 medium ones at a time. Works best if you first remove skins & cut larger cloves in half. Try to gather the garlic away from the teeth at the end and it's pretty easy to get the garlic out. Easy to clean if you wash or throw into hot water right after using. Doesn't even need soap. Not so good if you leave it stand dirty all evening or overnight in the dishwasher before cleaning.
Haven't tried it yet w/ ginger, but my guess is you have to use young, tender ginger b/c the plastic teeth aren't sharp enough if the ginger is very fibrous.
This costs the same as the better garlic presses, and IMO it wastes less and cleans more easily. I'm glad I got it.

A little pricey, but excellent quality and workmanship, and it does what it needs to do. Easy to clean, too.

and works for mincing ginger as well, you just need to cut it sufficiently thin, as it doesn't crush the way garlic does.

I don't think I'll ever buy a garlic press again! Apr 13, 2012

I used to have a great garlic press. This one, in fact: Trudeau Garlic Press, Black It worked very well for 2-3 years until - like several other people have mentioned in their reviews - the handles snapped off. And thus began my quest for the perfect garlic press. I've bought 3-4 more since then, aiming for the same sort of solid, heavy grip, minimizing the amount of gooshy garlic squishing back up on the sides of the press, trying to avoid something that rusted in the dishwasher, etc. Finally, while looking for yet another one, I found this product. And I'm done searching, because this is perfect.
First off, it's a bit larger and much heavier / sturdier plastic than I thought it would be from the photo. It feels very solid and fits comfortably in the hand. We used it just now to mince several cloves of garlic at once, and had immediate perfect results. The mince on the garlic is pretty comparable to what you'd get from a garlic press, except it's *all* minced. No layer of garlic sitting on the bottom of the press that wouldn't get squeezed through the holes, which you then have to scrape out with a knife. Getting the garlic out is simple with the right technique: Twist it so that the garlic inside is in that hourglass shape in the photos, where it's all away from the "teeth". Now it can be turned upside down and tapped out. And again, it's all minced. No large pieces left behind.
Clean-up is a breeze. A quick rinse under the tap and it's ready to dry (without having to worry about multiple pieces, or rust!). My quest is over :)
