Pie weights are used to prevent pie shells from blistering and shrinking while they bake. Mrs. Anderson's pie weights are ceramic, they conduct heat evenly and are also easy to clean after baking! For added convenience, the packaging becomes a storage container for the weights. For a great pie shell, these are a great value.

Weights work well, but "container" is worthless Mar 17, 2009
By Bill Clark The pie weights work well -- either because of ceramic properties or the fact they simply weigh more, but a smaller amount does the job of holding the crust in place and the result seems to be that the crust bakes more evenly. (When I used dry beans, the bottom of the crust always seemed to lag behind in the baking.)
Only complaint: the manufacturer's claim that "packaging can be used for storage" is absurd. The plastic packaging might be re-usable for some purpose, but it's virtually impossible to get the beads back into the package without spilling. I use a ball jar.

Gets the job done! Dec 26, 2008
By M. Jacobs

I have used these pie weights two times now and have found them to be quite effective. I was a bit apprehensive b/c I had read a review saying that they did not cover a 9 inch pie pan. I have used these weights on two different 9 inch pie pans and have found them to provide good coverage. One pie pan was a glass pyrex 9 inch and the other was a hand made ceramic type. The ceramic pan, although stated to be 9 inch seemed to have a wider footprint, with steeper sides, than the pyrex. I put the rolled out pie dough in my pie pan, covered it with aluminum foil, and then put the pie weights in the foil (as recommended by my Martha Stewart recipe). In both instances, my crust came out evenly baked and flat. A good buy for the money and if you qualify for the free super shipping, even better!

Work fine, but poorly packaged Aug 09, 2010
By orengineer I bought these to replace the jar of dried beans that I had been using. The beans were starting to get hard to wash and stayed just a bit greasy. I was concerned about the oil becoming rancid and affecting the taste of the pies. The ceramic seem to be heavier than the beans and may work a bit better. Dropped to 3 stars because the packaging was poorly done. I ordered 2 sets and both of them had broken open in transit and where rolling around inside the box when I got it. Who knows if any "escaped".

Great Product Jan 30, 2009
By G. Rohrs These ceramic pie weights do exactly what they're supposed to do - keep a pie crust from bubbling and shrinking when it's "blind" baked. If you make a lot of pies, these will make your life a lot easier! The only thing I've noticed is that you may have to bake the pie crust a little longer so the bottom will be fully cooked.

I purchased pie shields and pie weights recently and love them all !I can now leave the kitchen without fear of my pies burning on the edges, and without the centres being puffed like a cake. Mrs. Anderson, you are a dream ! Ann Knowles,Nassau, Bahamas.
