Nearly useless Jul 10, 2010
By M. Fairchild
"Books my thing"
This gadget looks like a great idea but actually works very poorly. The prongs are too flimsy and bend side to side, making it difficult to slice evenly. There is no secure way to hold the thing so I promptly cut myself. The spring holding the two jaws together is strong but therefore squashed the ripe tomato I was trying to cut - no doubt it would work better on the hard supermarket tomatoes you can get year round, but not for the currently available locally grown ripe ones. The knife has an oddly shaped handle, perhaps to make it easier to slice down, but since you have to worry the prongs back and forth to get them to line up it hardly helps. Glad I didn't pay shipping for the thing and am only out the price of it. I suggest you don't buy it. You can do a better job yourself and won't spend any extra money on bandaids, either.

Bad Idea Sep 01, 2010
By Tommy D. I just received this product today and used it to slice a large, supermarket-bought tomato. It resulted in almost-uniform slices, not nearly as precise as I expected, but the device was cumbersome, cheaply-made, difficult to use, and it was nearly impossible to cut evenly between the slots, which kept shifting back and forth. After the tomato, I cursed myself for paying $16 for it, including shipping. Then, for some irrational reason unknown to me, I decided to try cutting a red onion with it. I am sitting here typing this review with two deep knife gashes that are bleeding profusely. I have temporarily tried to stop the bleeding with extra-large Band-Aids. Here's hoping I don't require an ER visit. Long story short, DO NOT buy this piece of crap. By the time you read this I might have bled to death.

Worked after I figured it out. Jan 01, 2012
By Andrew B. I bought it for use with large tomatoes. I was having the same problems as other people, until I decided to use it upside-down. The trick is to hold it by the base with the hinge end up. Carefully insert the knife between the dividers near the hinge. Cut downward. The rigidness of the dividers near the hinge get the knife started correctly, and it goes smoothly from there.

Works Well Aug 12, 2011
By Michael Luster This device is very handy for tomato and onion slicing. It's sturdy and has a non-slip base. The knife is sharp and light. We use it daily with no problems. All it requires is a little patience and fine motor skill to get perfect thin slices.
