Helen's Asian Kitchen's natural 10 bamboo steamer is handmade and securely assembled with bamboo pegs and bamboo lacing. Unlike wood, bamboo is a grass, so it's a renewable and sustainable resource. A bamboo steamer is designed to sit over another pot containing boiling water (specially designed steaming rings make it easy to steam on 11" or 13" diameter stockpots). As the water boils, the steam enters the steamer through the open slats in the bottom and is contained in the steamer by the lid. The bamboo steamer absorbs any condensation, keeping water from dripping back onto the food. When heated, it forms a hot container and, with the cover in place, can keep food warm for up to half an hour. The bamboo steamer is also an attractive serving piece and may be brought right to the table. Foods that are steamed require little or no added oils or fats, and they retain vitamins and minerals and cook quickly and evenly.

Traditional bamboo steamer Mar 26, 2011
By Charlie I had purchased another brand of bamboo steamer from Amazon a few years ago, and it fell apart after 2 years of regular use. I decided to go with the Helen Chen brand since the prices appear to have skyrocketed.
The bamboo steamer relies on boiling water in a pot to provide the steam. Most electronic steamers use plastic trays and housings which can cause health issues and contaminate the taste of food. The bamboo steamers also inject a unique flavor from the bamboo.
Make sure to hand wash the steamer trays and take it easy while using them.

Excellent Steamer for dumplings, vegetables, and rice Aug 30, 2010
By Robert Ballantyne Love the stacking steamer. This thing handles vegetables and dumplings great, I recommend using cheese cloth when doing rice with it. Great value and nice size for 4 to 8 people.

Not as well made as expected Oct 23, 2011
By Wendy It's great for steaming, but hard to clean. Bits of food get stuck along the bottom under the sides. This size is very large and requires a huge pan for steaming.
