Design needs work... Jan 21, 2009
By Poor Student I bought this small silicone roller to lay out the bottom layer of bar cookies quickly and evenly, and for rolling out small yeasted flat breads. I used it maybe 15-20 times for a few minutes each use over a period of less than 2 months and the roller came off the main metal axis/handle piece when I was rolling out a higher protein dough. Before it broke, the roller worked pretty well for rolling things flat and evenly, and the silicone cover on the roller lived up to its low stick with little added flour promise. However, a roller attached from both sides to the rolling axis/handle piece (for example, PASTRY AND PIZZA ROLLER) would probably be much stronger. I think my next roller will be this model of roller, or at least the same design. I'd actually prefer rollers made of smooth polypropylene for better nonstick properties, but the wood version is cheap and widely available.
If I had used this only for delicate pastry doughs or rolling out the loose crusts of bar cookies, it would probably still be in great condition. I would only recommend it for such uses.

Just recently purchased the roller. Used once (making lemon bars)-- all the dough stuck to the roller. Not only did it not do its job, cleaning up was not easy. Save you money. Try using wax paper and a glass- the old fashion way-- more efficient and easy clean up.
