When I ordered this, it was because I discovered that baking escargot in a regular baking dish was messier than necessary. I wasn't really expecting too much at $6.99 but I was very pleasantly surprised.
This is a quality dish, perfect to use in the oven, and also nice enough quality to serve at the table.
This dish is heavy, well-made, and esthetically pleasing. If you are a lover of escargot like me, I have 2 suggestions for you:
1. Buy as many of these dishes as your family will need
2. Buy Roland Giant Escargot, the largest and tastiest escargot you will ever find. Happily on sale right now, about 45% off for a box of 12 cans if you take advantage of subscribe and save plus the regular discount code listed on the product page. The current price is about $1.20 per can which provides 2 appetizers. Each can holds at least 12 and frequently 13-14 escargot.
Super yum ! Sure, the escargot just as good if you bake them in a baking pan, but they are gorgeous and more tidy in this lovely dish.
Bake them with butter, olive oil, or coconut oil with extreme garlic and wow. Living the high life for peanuts !

Escargot and more Feb 28, 2010
By summerwine I have two other sets of escargot dishes. One has the "onion soup bowel" handle and is hollow with a breathing hole so dishwater can get into the inside cavity - not good!. They will now go to the garbage. My second set is close to this one but has smaller recesses for the escargot and that's okay for escargot only but they can't be used for stuffed mushrooms as an alternate dish which I can't imagine if you like escargot you would be opposed to, so they will be thrown away also.
I have four of these and trust me.... they will get plenty of use in my Snowbird group in Yuma.
If you buy some of these and you do not like them (can't imagine that), attach a reply to this and I will buy them off you for a slightly reduced price or hey! maybe you would like a set of my other ones in trade?
This is a "can't go wrong" purchase.

By Amazon lover This plate is awesome for preparing escargot. I bought the Roland escargot off amazon, and this plate, and it has been fantastic. I've ordered a second plate so I can cook more escargot at one time. The plate fits in my toaster oven so it makes it so easy to cook. Definitely recommend this plate. Also a great bargain...I didn't see any others online for this price.

Nice snail holder May 07, 2010
By Al Bacone I ordered a pair of these, and one had a small chip on the foot- not enough to bother with a return, especially given the abuse I put cookware through, but if you need them to be pristine, be aware that you may need to send one back (true of all mail-order fragiles, though, eh?). The wells are deep enough for good-sized snails, but not so deep as to become bottomless butter pits like some of the others I've looked at. They're also nice and heavy, so overall I'm pretty satisfied and my yard is almost entirely snail-free.
