great pounder Jun 13, 2009

This is a great meat pounder. Unlike hammers, which concentrate too much force into a small area and pulverize the meat, this device spreads out the force and can flatten a piece of meat quickly and evenly. The silicone coating may also help to spread the force somewhat, but it is very nice on the handle, providing a good grip. All in all, a well-balanced tool that is perfect for the job.

Thin coating on sides Aug 04, 2009
By Tina F. I grabbed it to whack on a bag of ice. The silicone coating on the side of this meat pounder tore, exposing the gray dull metal inside. Now I'm afraid to use it on food, fearing that germs and bacteria can get trapped inside the silicone coating. Be warned, this item has a thin lining of silicone on its sides, so do not whack anything hard with it. I wish that the label had had a warning about this. I only had it a couple of days. I used it to mash pinto beans in my nonstick frying pan. It mashed the beans well and it was easier to clean than a potato masher, but now it's ruined because I whacked on a bag of ice. I will not purchase this item again.
