You get what you ordered Dec 14, 2010
By Alyssa Berthet I love my set. I don't understand why people are saying they need a bigger coupler included... the bigger tips are supposed to go directly in to the pastry bag using the bag as the support, no coupler needed. And yes, though it would be nice to have a demonstrative leaflet with the product, you CAN go online and check for yourself. No biggie. I'm a satisfied customer.

Pretty much all you'll ever need... May 25, 2007

I was given this kit by my husband's aunt (along with numerous other Wilton products), in an effort to start a small cake decorating business. You will probably not need to ever buy additional tips, it has all the simple and basic tips, to the more complex and lesser used ones. All in all, a very useful and great product!

Haven't used it yet, but here goes... Dec 25, 2010
By May From the looks of this, I give it 4 stars. I haven't been able to actually put it to use due some life circumstances, but the quality of the tips is nice. As others have said of Ateco products, they may not be super popular like Wilton, but they are more durable. The metal is easily seen to be a bit thicker and stronger, which I like. Unlike another reviewer, mine came with everything it was supposed to. It's very nice to have all the tips I'm ever going to need, especially since the big icers and more intricate ones can cost 1.50-3 dollars each, so this is a good investment if you want to get into decorating, even if you're beginning. I really liked that it came with flower nails, both of different size, not only because you can easily make smaller or bigger roses, but also, and here's a trick, you can put them into the middle of you cake pan, along with the batter and bake it. Of course, if you make cakes bigger than the normal 8 or 9 in. round/square, then you need more nails. That will give your cake a nice even top, without have to use a corer--plus, their easier to remove than a corer. Also, they've got a nice lightly indented spiral, like a drill in the nail, so they're easier to hold and grip, while Wilton's are smooth and can easily fall if your hands are a bit sweaty or you loose your grip.
However, I have to take off a star. One reason is that I can't get the coupler to turn and set on correctly--it's always tilted. So it's a good thing I have some Wilton ones (which will hold Ateco tips, fyi). Also, like others have said, it would be nice to have a little booklet showing what each tip does. Instead, there is a picture on the back that shows a pattern and the tips which could make it. But it really stretches the line, as there's always ten tips, with different designs, that the picture says can make it.
Yet this is not too much of a problem. Almost all the Wilton and Ateco tips are numbered and designed the same. So if you really need or would like some reference, you can just buy a Wilton booklet or go to the Wilton website. This is a great product.

Quality of tips is good, quality of box is bad.... Jun 25, 2011
By wildstyled From a company with such a long history, I expected the quality of the box to be better. I had to choose between Wilton and Ateco and in my research I've found that Ateco is more durable than Wilton.
As others have said, a booklet telling what each item does would be very helpful (especially for beginners like me!!). Another thing is, the 4 tips that are on the corners of the box don't really even fit there... There are grooves for putting the tip in, but the large ones are so large they don't even fit. Basically, those 4 large corner tips just roll around in the box. Also, the 2 flower nails are poorly placed. Again, with a company like this, you'd think there'd be better designs. Also, the flimsy plastic box sucks!! I'm going to find a way to make my own. Maybe take a small tackle box and put empty egg carton shells?? I don't know, but I'm going to switch out this box.
** One other thing. Although there is a large variety of tips, it doesn't even come with the most basic one for cupcakes!?? In Wilton standards it's the 1M (or is it 1A) tip. It's the large circle tip.....and there isn't a closed star tip. You know, just the basics for cupcakes... So I bought another set. (If anyone is interested, it's the set from BakeitPretty.com and it's called the "Best Cupcake set" or something like that.)
Other than that, 4 stars because it is a good quality product. Box sucks and you may have to buy additional large tips for cupcakes!

Great Set Sep 17, 2011
By CoCaMomma Ateco has always been cheaper than Wilton because they supply for actual chefs and you don't have to pay for the brand Ateco. They've always produced high quality tips and decorating supplies. I would deffinately push buyer to get this set over the wilton set. As a professional pastry chef I lose tips and ruin tips all the time but with having Ateco tips online, I don't have to worry about spending a small fortune to replace mine a few times a year.
